The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness responsible for the management and operation of Public Health Services within the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following position at the Mandeville Regional Hospital: Laboratory Technician (HTAC/HT2) (salary range $796,385 – $946,651 per annum and any applicable allowances).

Under the direct supervision of the Medical Technologist, the Laboratory Technician will exercise responsibility for phlebotomy, performing routine investigations in order to aid in diagnoses of patients.

Qualification and Experience

Certificate in Laboratory Technician
Three (3) GCE/CXC subjects preferably English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject
Some Training in Medical Laboratory Technology
Proficient in Phlebotomy
Competent in Microsoft Word & Excel Spread Sheets.

Ideal candidate should possess the following

Capable of following instructions
Capable of mastering techniques
Concentration in preparing/performing analysis
Ability to work with minimal supervision

Key Responsibilities will include

Performing venepuncture daily on out-patients and in-patients
Logging of samples both for routine and for investigations done at the Central laboratory
Preparing differential slides for staining
Performing Haemoglobin WBC, RBC, Platelets dilution
Preparing sickle slides, reticulocytes slides and LE Prep
Performing group RL, PCY, ESR on patients’ samples
Preparing stool, urine, gram stain for microscopic examination
Performing routine (UREA, Glucose) investigations
